Address
A string used to specify a destination for a Bitcoin payment.
Bitcoin
The name of the open network and protocol; bitcoin also names the units transferred on that network.
Block
A collection of transaction data added to the blockchain.
Blockchain
The shared, ordered record of Bitcoin blocks and transactions.
Confirmation
A transaction’s inclusion in a block, with later blocks adding further confirmations.
Full node
Software that independently checks blocks and transactions against the network’s rules.
Mining
The proof-of-work process used to propose new blocks for the Bitcoin network.
Peer-to-peer
A network arrangement in which participants communicate directly with one another.
Private key
Secret cryptographic data used to authorize spending. It must not be shared.
Satoshi
One hundred-millionth of one bitcoin.
Transaction fee
An amount offered to miners for including a transaction in a block.
Wallet
Software or hardware used to manage keys and interact with Bitcoin transactions.
